How to get there by car

… from the north via German motorways

… from the west via Swiss motorways

… from the south via the routes

Toll sticker required by law

A toll applies to the use of Austra´s motorways and dual carriageways. Types of toll sticker: 10-day, 2-month and yearly stickers.

How to get there by train

From Austria:

Several trains a day, including car and night trains, connect eastern and southern Austria with Vorarlberg. Österreichische Bundesbahn (Austrian Railway): www.oebb.at

From Germany:

By way of Lindau – Bregenz or Oberstaufen.
Deutsche Bahn (German Railway): www.bahn.de
The nearest car train stations are Munich and Lörrach.

From Switzerland:

With EC and IC trains on the Zurich – St. Gallen – Bregenz route or via Zurich – Sargans – Feldkirch.

Long-Distance bus:

Long-distance buses are a low-cost alternative way of getting to Bregenz, Dornbirn, Feldkirch and Bludenz from across Europe: www.flixbus.at

Public buses in the region

The Bregenzerwald has an excellent public bus service. Use of the Bregenzerwald rural bus is included for holders of the Bregenzerwald Guest Card. Timetables, fares and information: fahrplan.vmobil.at

The nearest airport (from Egg):

  • Zürich, Switzerland (130 km) – several direct train connections from Zurich airport to Bregenz
  • St. Gallen/Altenrhein (44 km)
  • Friedrichshafen (52 km)
  • Allgäu Airport Memmingen/Munich West (95 km)
  • Munich, Germany (210 km)
  • Innsbruck, Austria/Tirol (200 km)
