Women’s Museum Hittisau

Hittisau Women’s Museum is the first and only museum dedicated to women in Austria.

Hittisau Women’s Museum presents changing exhibitions which examine topics from the fields of history, art, architecture, social history, ethnology, craftsmanship, etc. from a female point of view. Attention is paid to switching between or combining regional and international points of view. To accompany the exhibitions, the Women’s Museum offers an extensive supporting programme of individually organised special guided tours, talks, workshops, concerts, readings and film showings.

What makes for a „rich“ life? 23 women talk about their lives. They were born between 1915-1935 and were young girls during the Second World War or still children. They come from different social backgrounds, some from an urban, others from a rural environment. Some are physically and mentally fit, while others are more frail and show signs of dementia.

Spring cleaning. An exhibition about an extra-clean world
from 4 July 2023

The exhibition explores different aspects of cleaning and cleanliness. It will also tackle questions concerning role models and gender attributions,
economy and migration, ecology and sustainability, religion and spirituality.
